Sea Of Thieves Cooking Times

Sea of Thieves Food Guide Image, Kevduit holding a Pineapple

So you're out sailing around the Sea of Thieves, but you don't know which foods you should stuff your pockets with to ensure your survival. Welcome to THE food guide for Sea of Thieves, where what you eat is MORE important than where you eat it!

This guide was created by the Kevduit.com team using the amazing advice and images provided to us by our good friend ChimneySwift11. If you enjoyed the guide, consider checking out his live streams on TWITCH

Types of Food

Sea of Thieves contains a wide variety of food, most of which will feed any famished crew sailing around. These foods range from easy to find fruits to some less than beneficial bait. Regardless of your pirate's tastes, here's  a breakdown of everything you need to know about what you're shoving into your pirate's mouth.

Fruit Food

In Sea of Thieves, fruit could be considered a pirate's primary source of nutrition…essentially their basic "bread and jam" so to speak. With options ranging from basic bananas to premium pineapples, here's a list of all the fruits found in Sea of Thieves.

Now that you know what's worth grabbing, and since you can only hold 5 pieces of food in your pirate pockets, let's look at where you can find these fruits. Fruit can be found in storage barrels, rowboat chests, floating in shipwrecks or even tossed in the sand on beaches.

Fruit has a few bonus features to keep in mind while playing. They are COMPLETELY uncookable, can be used to feed caged pigs to keep them from turning into a pork chop, and can even be stored in the rightfully named Fruit Crate. This means you can actually sell them to the Merchant Alliance for a bit of gold (finally, a good use for bananas).

Meat Food

For the pirates that prefer to gain more from their food than just a full belly, there is meat. These are the main morsels that mega pirates tend to use to fill their health bars and to get a little extra kick out of their meal.

Meat has four stages of life to pay attention to, each one giving different benefits.

  • Raw – Eww, this won't really heal you at all and will probably make you vomit.
  • Undercooked – This will give you the health boost ONLY.
  • Perfectly cooked – This will give you both health and HP regen.
  • Burnt – You MONSTER, you cooked off 90% of the Health and will get NO regen.

With perfectly cooked food being the priority, we should discuss what HP regen is. HP regen is a healing value that kicks in to restore missing health, but it only activates if you haven't taken damage for a few seconds. So if you are at 1 HP and you have a full HP regen bar, over time you will heal completely.

Now before we talk about how to acquire meat in Sea of Thieves, we first need to categorize them into two different tiers.

Meat Tier 1

Snake, Chicken, Pork and even Shark are your tier one meats. These meats are easily obtained (shark being the hardest of the group) and all give the same amount of health and HP regen. Tier 1 meat can be hunted from any island, with the exception of sharks, and are typically very easy to acquire an abundance of.

Meat Tier 2

Megalodon and Kraken are the ONLY tier two meat in Sea of Thieves. Now obtaining these can be tricky and should be left to the professionals, but you can get your hands on them by following either guide below. My favorite spots to get these are from sunken ships or barrels of plenty that are floating out at sea under flocks of birds.

Fish Food

For pirates with more patience, there are plenty of protein packed snacks under the surface of the sea for you to consume. Not to be eaten raw however, fish is best consumed fried, just not to a crisp.

Fish also have four cooking stages like meat that you'll need to pay attention to. Again, each of these stages gives different benefits.

  • Raw – No Sushi here! Eating raw gives little health and might make you vomit.
  • Undercooked – This will give you the health boost ONLY.
  • Perfectly cooked – This will give you both health and HP regen.
  • Burnt – Just toss it back into the water, really, very little health gained.

Cooking Food

Meat and Fish are the only cookable foods in Sea of Thieves. Just follow the directions below to keep your food from joining the dark side.

Cooked foods are not just a good source of health, but they're also a good source of gold if you take them to the Hunter's Call Alliance. So if you run out of room to carry them, consider checking out the guide below where you can learn how to turn that fried food into glittery gold.

Bait Food

Honestly, I'm not even sure WHY this is even here. Yes, bait is a type of food in Sea of Thieves, but just because you CAN eat something doesn't mean you SHOULD. However, if you decide to eat your bait instead of trying to catch something useful with it, here's the "benefits" they offer.

Bait can also be fed to a pet in Sea of Thieves, and can even make them sick! This can be fun, especially as a prank on your friend's pet before you send them flying out of the cannons.

Seriously though, just use your bait to catch those commendations from fishing. You can use the guide below to get the most out of the fishing grind.
